It is widely recognised that pets come with some powerful health benefits. Pets, especially dogs and cats can help to reduce stress. anxiety and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness. Caring for an animal can provide valuable companionship for adults and bring real joy and unconditional love into your life.

Mother and daughter, Susan and Lesley are new residents at our supported living facility, Parkside. They formed a quick bond with one of our team, Sharon, over their love of animals. Susan dreamt of owning a grey kitten and so when Sharon heard about the birth of a litter of kittens locally, she worked with the ladies to ensure that Susan’s dream came true.

Sharon made sure that the ladies saw images of the kitten before committing and that they had information to make an informed choice. Susan was soon out shopping for kitten accessories and the all important litter equipment! Susan has fallen in love with her new kitten, Poppy, with Lesley also enjoying the new family member!

The Sahara Care team actively ensure at all times that our service users make their own decisions wherever possible to ensure that they live full and enriched lives with as much independence as is possible.
